Ariens Snowblower Reviews – Worth The Price Tag?

Independent Wife With The Ariens Compact Sno-Thro Snow Blower

During winter months, we get an average of 1 foot and a half of snow.  I used to be quite oblivious to it.  Growing up as theariens snowblower reviews only girl in a household with three burly brothers, I was never tasked to clear the driveways or sidewalks.  My chores were all indoors.  All this changed, however, when I got married and started a family.  I no longer had any of my brothers around to clear the driveway for me.  I had to rely on my husband for that.  But since he is always away on business – he usually have to go out of town every 2 weeks, I knew I had to get the hang of it pretty soon.  We recently got the Ariens Compact Sno-Thro Snow Blower to replace the much bigger model my husband used to have.  This 24-inch model is still quite heavy, but much lighter than the old model which I cannot even begin to maneuver.

Compact

Our previous snow blower was a hand-me-down given to my then fiancé by his dad.  It worked okay and did its job quite well, but I could not operate it for the life of me!  It was just too darn huge, not to mention heavy.  This new Ariens Snow Blower we bought is not light, but is much lighter than our old one.  It is compact enough to make it possible for someone like me to operate and maneuver it.  It still requires quite a bit of strength to move around, but at least I can get my driveway cleared even on days when my husband is away.

Thick Steel All Over

I remember one time when I was in high school, my dad bought one of the cheaper kinds on snow blower just because it was on sale.  After the second use, part of the thrower section of the machine broke because it was made out of plastic.  Needless to say, my dad was both furious and embarrassed.  He threw that money away on something that only worked properly once.  He should have known better than to buy a cheap machine with plastic parts.  The image of my dad stayed with me.  I promised myself I will be cautious in buying my equipment.  This Ariens snow blower has all steel parts, even the thrower section.  The steel feels thick and sturdy and I know it will last us a long time.

Easier Pushing Through Deep Snow

While pushing through deep snow will never be classified as easy in my book, I must say that the tires on the Ariens Compact Sno-Thro Snow Blower make it much more possible and bearable.  One time while my husband was on a business trip for the weekend, a snowstorm hit our city, and I woke up to 14 inches of snow blanketing our entire neighborhood.  I was tempted to stay in bed the entire day, but I had a very important lunch date with my girlfriends, and I wasn’t about to miss that.  So I took out the snow blower and pushed through that snow.  It was not very easy, but it also was not too difficult, which is saying a lot considering it was my first time to deal with that amount of snow all by myself.

Starts Electronically AND Manually

The Ariens Compact Sno-Thro Snow Blower starts with a 110v electric starter.  It is very convenient and user-friendly, especially for people like me with close to zero equipment savvy.  But what about those snow storms that not only result in inches or feet of snow, but also power outages?  This snow blower also starts manually with a pull rope for such occasions.  Thankfully, we have never had to deal with power outages in our area, but we did a one-time test on the manual start of this machine just to know that it works properly should we need to use it in the future.

Testimonial From Amazon Buyers:

There are others out there in snow-laden towns that are just as happy with their Ariens purchases.  Read on to find out about their snow stories and experiences.

  • If you’re an old guy like me, a snow blower can save your life by preventing a heart attack.  It is not very easy to operate this machine, but far less taxing than shoveling snow for hours.
  • This is a nice machine.  The motor starts reliably, the controls are generally okay, and it does a nice job.
  • Does a very good job clearing up sidewalks and around the house.
  • It works well even in heavy wet snow.  It threw the snow plenty far to clear my driveway, and that of my neighbors’ as well.  I have no doubt this will last for many years with regular oil changes and scheduled maintenance.

The Downside:

Because it is compact and the muffler is also kept small, this machine can get pretty loud.  It is louder than the regular lawn mower.  My husband and I use ear plugs whenever we have to use it.  But other than that, we are very pleased with this snow blower and still recommend it to all our friends.

Why I Love Our Ariens Compact Sno-Thro Snow Blower:

I used to dread when my husband would leave for business trips during the winter, partly because I miss him, and partly because I am almost incapable of clearing our driveway by myself.  One time when I had tried and given up, I had to call one of my friends to “borrow” her husband to finish the rest of the3 driveway for me.  Our old machine was just too tiring, too heavy and too difficult.  Since we got the Ariens Compact Sno-Throw Snow Blower, I have been little Miss Independent.  I no longer have to make that embarrassing phone call to ask a favor.  I can proudly say I can clear our driveway all by myself.
